27th Malachite, 251 – Late Summer

Migrants have arrived! Unfortunately, not a miner in the lot. Nothing be extra mouths to feed to be honest.

  • Mistem Olonamith the Farmer
  • Unib Rithakum the Dyer
  • Momuz Dodukunal the Armorer
  • Kadol Kolkirar the Tanner
  • Monom Ralsacat the Cook
  • And some animals: A horse and Mafol Onulsherik (a puppy)

That horse is going to be looking pretty yummy in a bit. We’re down to 10(?) meat, 9 Fish, 6 Plants, 60 seeds, 80(?) Drink, and 10(?) Other.

In other news, the wall is complete, and I’ll start construction of the main keep, and possibly some storage houses if we had enough food. I built a drawbridge but forgot I had no miner to mine stone for the mechanisms I’d need to connect it to a lever, so it’s really just a fancy floor at the moment. I probably should deconstruct it, wall that area off and put up a door in an attempt to keep vermin out.

Addendum: That giant eagle has killed one of my dogs. I think it’s keeping the migrants from making their way to our ramshackle fortress.

28th Felsite, 251 – Late Spring

Construction has started on the outer wooden walls. Things have been going relatively smoothly, except that my carpenter seems to be getting harassed by a giant eagle. We’re going to need to construct a keep quickly. I just don’t know if we have enough wood.

I nearly forgot to set up my farms, I hope it’s not too late.

Summer addendum:

It appears the ghost of the jeweler is hanging around the lake that I’ve built my wall around. The lake he drowned in. I hope he’s not much of a bother. That’s him on the north western tip of the lake.

3rd Granite, 251 – Early Spring

It has been two days since I gave orders to channel out the ice (Editor’s note: about 30 seconds of real time) and disaster has struck fast and hard.

The ice melted and drowned Urvad. Our jeweler was standing on the ice for some reason as well (you can see it in the screenshot of the embark in the last post) so we lost, him (or her, I barely got a chance to even read their names, let alone know what gender they all are) as well.

Here lies our hopes and dreams.

Current roster:

  • Urvad Agsalmomuz the Miner
  • Deduk Besmarrashgur the Woodworker
  • Erush Dumatvel the expidition leader
  • Id Besmaralak the Stoneworker
  • Tosid Cerolkutam the Jeweler
  • Ezum Fathken the Fisherdwarf
  • Stukos Oddomborik the Fish Cleaner

What will we do without a miner? Build everything out of wood? Are you mad? What do we look like? Elves?

I guess I have no recourse. The only pick we set out with is now laying at the bottom of lake that was but only two days ago solid ice. I can only hope migrants (if we manage to attract any) bring picks with them.

History begins here at Akrulkegeth Tinhold

I have chosen to embark an a site in the Spikes of Inferno. It’s temperate but according the embark screen it doesn’t have any trees or vegetation, it should have a river and trees but I can’t really be sure.

I went with the Play Now! option. I haven’t really gotten the hang of preparing for my embarkation.

We’re nearly out of supplies, but with stout labor comes sustenance. Whether by bolt, plow or hook, I’ll have to provide for my seven dwarves. I’m expecting a a supply caravan just before winter; it’s spring now, enough time to delve secure lodgings, ere the wolves get hungery. A new chapter of dwarven history  begins here at Akrulkegeth Tinhold.

Strike the Earth!

I have with me:

  • Urvad Agsalmomuz the Miner
  • Deduk Besmarrashgur the Woodworker
  • Erush Dumatvel the expidition leader
  • Id Besmaralak the Stoneworker
  • Tosid Cerolkutam the Jeweler
  • Ezum Fathken the Fisherdwarf
  • Stukos Oddomborik the Fish Cleaner

Now that I see the roster I regret not customizing my embark. What good are the two fisherdwarves going to be on a place with a tiny brook and a couple frozen ponds? I’ll probably have to update their job list immediately.

I attempted to assign the miners to dig 20 levels deep from where they stand, but around 17 and 18 levels down the designation wouldn’t stick. I’m canceling that order, possibly a cavern around there and we don’t need to open that can of worms up. Not yet. Besides, there’s a couple frozen lakes that I just realized I should mine out before summer hits. Maybe I’ll make my main drawbridge out of ice.
